For many reasons, Dope Soul Wellness, PLLC is a private pay practice and does not accept insurance.
When you use insurance to pay for therapy, your therapist is required to provide your diagnosis and treatment notes to your insurance company in order to get paid. This undermines the basic premise of therapy and also gives a lot more people access to private health information about you.
Additionally, many people seek therapy for personal growth and exploration, not because they are depressed or anxious or have a serious mental illness. Unfortunately, because insurance companies require therapists to diagnose each client, it puts therapists in an awkward and ethically challenging position if you don’t meet the criteria for a mental illness.
For these reasons, our fees are competitively and fairly priced to match industry standard pricing for North Carolina & Virginia.
Your 15-minute initial phone consultation is free, and initial intake appointments as well as follow-up sessions cost $150.
At this time, Dope Soul Wellness is a virtual/telehealth practice. All sessions take place through our HIPPA compliant videoconferencing system ‘Telehealth by Simple Practice’. Scheduling, payment, and communication will all take place using the Simple Practice website (or Simple Practice App). During your initial phone consultation, Cyd will discuss whether or not virtual telehealth is a good fit for you.
Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, the therapy experience can be different depending on the individual. What you can always expect is the highest degree of confidentiality and respect. During our first session together I will get to know you through asking questions about your background, invite you to share more about why you're seeking help, and work collaboratively to set treatment goals for therapy.
Everything we do in session will be in collaboration with one another (remember, you're the pilot, and I'm the co-pilot). You will see the most progress if you are an active participant in the process. Sometimes, I will assign homework to discuss at your next session (this can include letter writing, journaling, worksheets, goal-setting, anxiety tracking, and more). For the best results, it's important that you come to each session with your homework completed and ready to discuss your thoughts & progress and/or any areas where you feel stuck or frustrated.
Each session will last approximately 45-50 minutes.
Remember, not all therapy is solution-focused. Be patient with yourself, and give yourself lots of love and grace along the way. Many of the internal struggles we face are deeply rooted and have taken years to develop. Therapy is not a quick fix and will take time and patience.
